Setting up Wake-on-Lan (WoL)
This guide will show you how to enable Wake-on-LAN (WoL) on your computer, allowing you to remotely power it on over your network.
Prerequisite:
A computer that supports WoL (check your computer's or motherboard's documentation)
Enable Wake-on-LAN in BIOS
Access BIOS: Reboot your computer and press the designated key at the boot screen (usually Delete, F2, or another function key). The key will be indicated on the screen.
Locate WoL Option: In the BIOS menu, find the Wake-on-LAN option. It may be clearly labeled or included in settings like "Resume By PCI-E Device" (e.g., on MSI motherboards). Refer to your motherboard's manual for guidance.
Enable WoL: Toggle the setting to enable it.
Note:
Some computers may only support WoL from sleep mode, while others allow it from a powered-off state.
Tip:
Check your PC or motherboard documentation as some manufacturers may require disabling certain sleep modes (e.g., S3/S4) to enable WoL.
