🎮 ggRock Games Drive: Recommended Configuration
This guide provides recommended best practices for organizing your Games Drive in a ggRock environment. While there’s flexibility based on your preferences, following these guidelines helps ensure compatibility, ease of support, and long-term maintenance.
❓ The "Problem" (or more accurately, the Dilemma)
There’s no wrong way to configure your games drive—but certain methods work better in the context of diskless systems, application compatibility, and support from game and launcher developers.
📁 What Drive Letter Should I Use?
The drive letter you assign to your Games Drive is ultimately your choice. However, consistency matters—especially in multi-image environments.
➡️ Recommendation:
Use a dedicated letter like G: for the Games Drive.

🧱 Suggested Folder Structure
To keep things organized and minimize issues, we suggest separating content by type. Here’s a simple structure:
G:\Games → Game installations (e.g. G:\Games\Rocket League)
G:\Launchers → Launchers like Steam, Epic Games, etc.
G:\Utilities → Misc tools (e.g. QRes, config utilities)
G:\Applications → Apps like OBS Studio or MSI Afterburner💡 Each folder can contain subfolders for individual titles or tools.
🚫 Exceptions: Apps That Don't Like Separate Drives
Some programs (like Google Chrome, Discord, or certain games) don’t support installation to a separate drive letter.
Avoid using hardlinks or junctions to work around this—it can cause weird behavior and be a pain to support later.
✅ Install these apps to C:\ (your system image) instead.
🚀 Where Should Game Launchers Go?
If your Games Drive is reused across multiple ggRock images (e.g. different hardware configs), then install launchers here:
G:\Launchers✔️ General recommendation:
Install all game launchers to the Games Drive unless a specific launcher advises otherwise.

🎮 Where Should Games Be Installed?
You guessed it—onto the Games Drive, unless the game vendor recommends otherwise.
📌 Be sure the game supports installation on non-system drives (some older titles or bad ports don’t).
🧰 What About Other Applications and Utilities?
Applications and tools that don’t need to live on the system image should go on the Games Drive—again, unless they refuse to cooperate with a non-C:\ location.
