🎮 Multipurposing Your Gaming Space with ggLeap PC Groups

When your esports venue hosts multiple types of events — tournaments, private rentals, or open play — you may need to restrict which games or apps appear on certain PCs depending on the audience.

ggLeap’s PC Groups make this easy! You can create multiple groups, each with its own application access rules, and move PCs between them as needed.

🧩 Why Use Multiple Groups?

Each PC Group in ggLeap can have:

  • A unique set of available games and apps

  • Custom access restrictions (e.g., age-appropriate titles)

  • Specific use cases — tournaments, classrooms, or general play

By creating multiple groups, you can repurpose the same physical PCs for different audiences simply by moving them between groups.

Example:

  • Public PCs → All-ages library of games

  • Tournament PCs → Only event-approved titles

  • Private Rental PCs → User-requested apps or competitive lineup

⚙️ Step-by-Step: Creating and Managing PC Groups

1️⃣ Create a New PC Group

  1. In the ggLeap Web Admin, go to Clients → Groups.

  2. Click Add Group.

  3. Give the group a descriptive name (e.g., “Tournament Group,” “Birthday Event PCs”).

  4. Optionally assign a custom icon or color to make it easy to identify in the dashboard.

2️⃣ Configure Application Availability

  1. Navigate to Games → Game Cards.

  2. Select a game to edit its settings.

  3. Under Availability, choose Specific Groups.

  4. Select only the groups that should see this title.

    • Example: Rocket League → Available to “Tournament Group” only

    • Example: Minecraft → Available to “Public PCs” only

Repeat for each game or app that needs unique visibility.

3️⃣ Assign PCs to the Appropriate Group

  1. Go to Clients → PCs in the Web Admin.

  2. Select one or multiple PCs.

  3. Use the Move to Group option and choose the desired group.

You can move PCs back and forth as needed — for example, reassigning half your PCs to a “Private Event” group for a rental, then returning them to “Public” afterward.

💡 Best Practices & Tips

  • Plan Ahead: Define your most common event types and create matching groups (e.g., “Public,” “Tournament,” “Private Rental”).

  • 🕹️ Keep it Clean: Only enable games relevant to the event to reduce clutter and avoid confusion.

  • 🔄 Quick Swaps: You can freely move PCs between groups — only a restart required for app visibility changes.

  • 📋 Audit Regularly: Occasionally check group settings to ensure new games are categorized properly.

🏁 Example: Florida State University’s Approach

Florida State University uses multiple ggLeap PC groups to streamline event operations:

“We created a couple of groups and adjusted the game availability restrictions to populate games based on the event needs. We just move PC objects back and forth when we need them for private or sensitive events.”
Matthew, FSU Gaming Manager

This method minimizes interference and frustration while keeping every event’s library perfectly tailored to its audience.
